Lupus skin
These are the facial skin lesions which gave its name to the disease:
- Sudden eruption of red patches, puffed at the beginning, at the cheekbones and up the nostrils (verspertilio). It can be caused by exposure to UV. It may also exist in the limbs on the exposed parts.
- It can be also found red discoid lesions on the exposed parts of the body. The neck, shoulders, arms are the most common site. They are associated with alopecia (hair loss) in plaques in the scalp.
Especially, photosensitivity (sensitivity to light) of these lesions is characteristic. Note that these patients have less renal damage than others and therefore skin lesions tend to bode well for the prognosis.
- Discoid Lupus is a plate covered with a reddish crust stick, found in the scalp, ears or face. The lesion may be of interest to the hair follicle. Early lesions may be edematous but the evolution settles atrophic, scarring and amelanotic (discolored). Discoid lupus is a good prognosis for moving on subjects unaffected by organic damage but 25% of these patients begin their disease affected by this mild disease to progressively introduce an extension of their disease.
- The livedo reticularis lesion, which sits on the members is characterized by an lattice area of cyanosis aspect.
- At the level of mucous membranes, the patient may have ulcers on the cheeks and above the palace.
