Lupus rashThe disease progresses slowly over several years. Successive surges, with periods of remission can vary from several months to several years. The complications of the disease are due to internal organs damage like the kidneys, nervous system and cardiovascular system.
Lupus rash picturesThe disease can also cause premature delivery in pregnant women. In mild cases (with skin and joints) patient receives like treatment, anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) to reduce inflammation and pain. This treatment is sometimes accompanied by short-term corticosteroids. In more severe cases, however, the patient will be treated with higher doses of corticosteroids or with some immunosuppressive or wiht both. It will then complete the treatment according to the organ affected. In case of serious renal disease, it will, for example, perform hemodialysis (blood cleansing through the machines since the too affected kidneys can no longer play their role). A patient with lupus should imperatively protect from the sun especially in outbreaks of the disease. Some drugs are photosensitizers and may increase the existing problem in patients with lupus. It will be essential to inform patients of this possibility in any self-medication. |
